Lincoln University of Missouri is a public HBCU founded in 1866 in Jefferson City — established by Black Civil War veterans of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantry regiments who pooled their own money to create a college for freed people. One of only two public HBCUs in the Midwest, Lincoln University serves as Missouri’s 1890 land-grant institution with strong agriculture, business, education, nursing, and criminal justice programs.
