University of Iowa

The University of Iowa (UI) is a public research university founded in 1847 in Iowa City — one of only 21 cities in the world designated a UNESCO City of Literature, largely because of UI. A member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), UI enrolls 32,000 students and is home to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop — the most celebrated creative writing program in the United States, which has produced 17 Pulitzer Prize winners. Iowa was the first public university in the US to admit men and women equally.
