The University of Utah (the U) is a public research university founded in 1850 in Salt Lake City — the flagship of the Utah System of Higher Education. A member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the U enrolls 34,000 students and has a remarkable history of technological innovation: the computer graphics (GPU) was developed here, Nolan Bushnell (co-founder of Atari) was a student, and the U is the birthplace of the Arpanet protocols that became the internet. The U is known for medicine, law, business, and engineering programs.
