SUNY Maritime College is the oldest maritime college in the United States, founded in 1874 and located in Throggs Neck in the Bronx, at the confluence of the East River and Long Island Sound. SUNY Maritime trains students for careers in the maritime industry, including deck and engineering officers, naval architects, and international trade professionals. Students train aboard the Empire State, a 565-foot training vessel. The college enrolls approximately 1,900 students.
