Clark Atlanta University (CAU) is a private HBCU research university formed in 1988 by the merger of Clark College (founded 1869) and Atlanta University (founded 1865) — the first institution in the US to award advanced degrees to African Americans. Part of the Atlanta University Center, CAU enrolls 4,000 students with strong social work, business, and sciences programs.
