The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) is the newest campus of the University of California system, established in 2005 in Merced, California, in the San Joaquin Valley near Yosemite National Park. UC Merced is the first US research university built in the 21st century and serves an important role in expanding UC access to the underserved Central Valley region. The campus enrolls approximately 9,000 students and is growing rapidly, with a major campus expansion completed in 2020.
